We collect information you provide directly to us, including when you create an account, start a counseling session, or log your mood. This may include your name, email address, session messages, and mood entries.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to provide and improve our services, personalize your experience, and ensure your sessions are saved and accessible to you. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

3. Your Conversations

Your counseling session messages are stored securely and are isolated to your account. No other user can access your sessions. Administrators can access records only for platform operations and support. Sessions are encrypted in transit.

4. Data Retention

We retain your data — including sessions, journal entries, mood logs, and memories — for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual entries at any time within the app, or delete your entire account instantly from the Privacy & Data settings page.

5. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and maintain your session. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes via email or a prominent notice on the app.

7. SMS & Messaging

We may send you SMS text messages related to your account, session reminders, and support communications. By providing your mobile phone number and opting in, you agree to receive recurring text messages from I'm Your Friend. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe at any time. Reply HELP for help. We do not share, sell, rent, or otherwise provide your mobile information or messaging consent to any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We use your mobile number only to deliver the messaging services you have requested.

Device Identifiers

We may collect device identifiers — such as an advertising ID, device ID, or similar device identifiers — for analytics and to provide and maintain our services. These identifiers may be transmitted off your device to our backend service providers to support app functionality, security, and usage analytics. We do not sell device identifiers to third parties. You may reset or limit advertising identifiers in your device settings.

Request Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time. Visit our account deletion page to delete your account instantly or submit a request by email.

AI Processing of Your Messages

When you chat with an AI companion, your messages are processed by artificial intelligence (large language model) technology to generate responses. Your messages are sent to our cloud AI provider in real time to produce the companion's reply. We do not store your messages on the AI provider's systems beyond what is necessary to generate each response. The AI is not a human, and no human reads your conversations unless you explicitly contact support.

Journal AI reflections: When you request an AI reflection on a journal entry, the entry's text is sent to our AI provider to generate a brief response. This happens only when you tap "Get AI reflection" — your journal is never automatically sent to AI.

Wellness reports: When you generate a Monthly Wellness Report, your session summaries and mood data are sent to our AI provider to produce the report. Reports are generated on demand and are not stored.

Companion memories: When memory is enabled, relevant saved memories are included in the prompt sent to the AI provider so your companion can maintain continuity. Sensitive memories are handled with extra care and are not casually surfaced in unrelated conversations.

How We Handle Your Wellness Information

Conversations: Your chat session messages are stored securely and isolated to your account. No other user can access your sessions. Administrators can access records only for platform operations and support. Session content is encrypted in transit.

Journal entries: Your journal entries are private to your account. No other user can access them. Administrators can access records only for platform operations. Journal content is sent to our AI provider only when you explicitly request an AI reflection.

Mood entries: Your mood logs and associated notes are visible only to you and are used to generate personal insights and wellness reports. No other user can access your mood data.

Companion memories: If you use the companion memory feature, the memories you save (such as preferences or goals) are stored privately and are only accessible to you. You can view, edit, delete, or clear all memories at any time from the memory management page. Memory is optional and can be turned off from Privacy & Data.

Saved insights: Insights you save from companion responses are stored privately and are only accessible to you. You can delete them at any time from the Saved Insights page.

Personality tests: Personality and self-assessment tests are computed entirely in your browser. Your answers and results are not stored on our servers and are not sent to any AI provider.

Wellness reports: Monthly Wellness Reports are generated on demand from your session summaries and mood data. Reports are not stored — they are regenerated each time you visit the page.

Profile information: Your name, email, phone number, and account settings are used to provide and personalize your experience. We do not share this information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Data Retention

We retain your data — including session messages, journal entries, mood logs, companion memories, and saved insights — for as long as your account is active. We do not currently have an automated data-retention schedule that deletes old content after a fixed period. If you want specific content removed, you can delete individual journal entries, mood entries, companion memories, or saved insights at any time within the app. You can also delete your entire account and all associated data instantly from the Privacy & Data page.

Export Your Data

You can download a copy of all your data — sessions, memories, mood entries, journal entries, saved insights, and feedback — as a JSON file at any time from the Privacy & Data page. The export contains only data linked to your account, verified server-side. No other users' data, internal system prompts, or API keys are included.

Third-Party Processors

We use the following categories of third-party services to operate I'm Your Friend:

• Hosting & database: Our application platform stores your account data and wellness content.
• AI provider: A cloud-based large language model provider processes your messages to generate companion responses, journal reflections, and wellness reports.
• Payment processing: Stripe processes subscription payments. We do not store your full credit card number — Stripe handles card data securely on their servers.
• Email: An email service provider delivers account-related emails to you.
• Analytics: We use anonymous analytics to understand app usage. We do not send conversation text, journal content, mood notes, or memory content to analytics.

We do not sell your data to any third party. Each processor receives only the data necessary to perform its specific function.

Safety System Privacy

Our safety system analyzes your messages to detect potential crisis situations and surface emergency resources. The safety system logs only operational information: the risk level, whether crisis resources were shown, and whether classification failed. It does not log the content of your messages, your conversation history, your identity, or your companion selection. No human monitors your conversations. Emergency services are not automatically contacted — the crisis resources are surfaced for you to use if you choose.

Account Deletion

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed: your profile, counseling sessions, companion memories, mood entries, journal entries, saved insights, and feedback. Any active subscription is cancelled at the same time. Deletion is immediate — you do not need to wait or contact support. Visit the Privacy & Data page to delete your account.
